FDNY CoF – Use of LPG or CNG in Engine Fuel Systems (G-22) Practice Test

Understanding that CNG, or compressed natural gas, is odorless and colorless is crucial when discussing safety and handling measures. This property can pose significant challenges in leak detection; since leaks can occur without any visual indication or smell to alert personnel, it heightens the risk of accidents or hazards. Proper training and monitoring systems are essential to mitigate this risk, such as using gas detection systems or maintaining proper ventilation in areas where CNG is used or stored.

The other aspects of CNG, such as being flammable and requiring special handling equipment, while relevant, do not directly relate to the challenge of recognizing leaks, which is explicitly tied to its lack of odor and color. Understanding this key characteristic helps reinforce the importance of vigilance and safety precautions in environments where CNG is present.
